Personal Style

While I've been cleaning out my closet over the past few days, I realized that my sense of style is constantly evolving. There are a few key traits that have tended to stick with me over the years but overall I found that as my life continues to change, so does my closet. So today I wanted to touch on personal style and whether you all feel like you are set in your ways in regards to style or if you find yourself changing and molding to each moment like I am.
Recently, especially since entering the blogging world full-time, I've found that my wardrobe is inspired by the bloggers I love. I may see an accessory on a blog that I fall in love with and I immediately begin searching for something similar to add to my wardrobe. At the same time my fellow bloggers give me more courage to try something fashion-wise that I never thought I could pull off before. You know when you see models in the magazines wearing something cool--but because it's a skinny fashion model walking down the runway you immediately don't associate it with everyday life attire? Well seeing bloggers sport different styles have the opposite affect on me, they make me want to break even more out of my comfort zone and experiment more.
While in Costa Rica my friend Carla was always sporting these beautiful long flowy printed dresses and they looked fabulous on her. She definitely has that Aussie style that I don't normally see in upstate New York. Immediately it got my mind thinking about how I could incorporate floral maxi skirts into my wardrobe while still maintaining my personal style. I would describe my style as masculine with a feminine twist. I love structured pieces like blazers, leather jackets and button down shirts. But at the same time I love bright colors, funky purses and statement jewelry that will make those masculine pieces seem less harsh.
As I've grown up, I have learned my lesson on which fashion trends don't work on my body type (ruffles, super feminine pieces, and anything pleated). I'm also always going to be the girl who chooses a pair of converse over a pair of heels. Yet, I also realized I don't need to fall into a certain category. One day I may want to dress on the preppy side and other days preppy doesn't suit my personality and instead I need to throw on a leather skirt with studded sandals to feel more like myself.  My style constantly changes from day to day depending on my mood, and now I know thats okay.

So my question to you is, how would you describe your personal style?
Does your style change or do you stick to what works?
What inspires you style-wise?
xoxo

  1. My style has definitely evolved since reading fashion blogs and since starting one of my own! The whole reason I wanted to start one was to hold myself more accountable for my purchases and to push myself out of my comfort zone! They really are great for that and for motivation

  3. Personal style is lacey, flowy, and feminine. It works for me and I stick to it for the most part. While I do try to get outside my comfort zone sometimes, I don't see the point in spending money on stuff I can't ensure I will love. However, seeing other bloggers doing different things has really opened me up to new experiences.

  4. I totally agree with you Alex! Blogging has introduced me to so many fantastic bloggers who have influenced my style. For the most part, my style has always been classically preppy but lately I've loved adding things like printed dresses, statement necklaces and bold shoes to my closet to jazz it up a little :)

  5. I feel like I have no style at all. I wear all different stuff and am constantly changing what I like. I don't even know how I would describe it if I tried!

  6. My style changes all the time, but I tend to lean towards preppy. I live in California though, so it has a relaxed, beach feel too.

  7. $$$ I need new clothes so badly, like every day clothes. I am lucky that I can still wear clothes I wore when I was 18, but some of those are too worn out / outdated to justify. I have to spend money on boring suits and such. Ugh

  8. I think it's great that your style is versatile! I'm like you... I tend to dress according to my mood, and you NEVER know how I'm going to feel when I wake up one morning! :)

  9. Really great post! I feel my style has evolved over the past few years, but I tend to lean on classic styles and colors I've always loved. What's great about the blogging world is that it continues to introduce and inspire new trends to try once in awhile. I'm totally with you, my style seems to depend on my mood that day!
