New Year, New Job

So the new year is supposed to bring about new adventures, right? I have decided to leave my job as a teacher aide and take a position at NYS. I'm still not 100% sure I made the right decision because I absolutely love my job at the school. It was the first job I ever had that I actually looked forward to going to work each day. The students were fun and it was giving me plenty of experience for when I (hopefully) get a job as a school counselor. The only downside to my job was that the pay sucks and if I ever had any goal of building an independent life for myself, I needed a job that paid better. This new job will give me plenty of opportunities to move up in a company that offers great benefits and hopefully a future retirement!
I got super lucky getting a job at the State because, as most of you know, the job market sucks and they really aren't hiring. Although I am sad about leaving my students behind, I am excited for my future because more cash means more opportunities to have adventures and new experiences. I start my new job next Monday and I've already started browsing at all the fun desk accessories I can buy to decorate my cubicle. If I'm going to be stuck at my desk all day, the least I can do is make it fun and relaxing to be in, right?! I want to invest in plenty of bright colored accessories to make my move from school to office a little more cheery. Obviously my favorite place in the world, Pottery Barn Teen, has plenty of great desk organization pieces that I have my eye on....

This Preppy Paper Desk Accessories Set is definitely on my radar. However, that magazine holder will probably hold important papers rather than fashion magazines...sigh... but how cute is that polka dot print?

This tack-board will be perfect for posting important memos, plus a couple pictures of Misa!

Where do you recommend I look for cute office supplies and desk accessories?

  1. Congrats on the new job!! So exciting! I loved decorating my desk when I started. I brought in a desk lamp and a couple picture frames! I also would say invest in some fun notepads! Sure, the office will provide you with plain notebooks and yellow post its... but its more fun if you have personalized items!!

  2. Congrats on the new job! that is so exciting Alex!! Pottery Barn teen is one of my favorite places :) You should look at the Paper Source, then Kate Spade has some fun notepads, push pins, and paper clips. Can't wait to hear more about your new job!

  3. Congrats on the new job! I suggest TJ Max their home good section is amazing and you can find some amazing deals!

I love to craft so I would try to make some of your own! (Ceral box + wrapping paper or scrapbook paper = magazine holder)

  4. Congratulations!! It's always hard to leave a job, especially when you love the people, but I'm sure you'll be way happier in your new position!

  6. Congratulations on your new job Alex!! I love your ideas for desk/cubicle decor- Pottery Barn Teen always has the most gorgeous room accessories!

  7. So exciting! Congrats on the new job! I love office supplies and paper products and to be honest, I find some cute ones at Target.

  8. Congrats! Have fun decorating your new space!

  9. Continue stepping up on the ladder to success, Alex! Anyways, good luck on your new job. I am sure you’ll be great at it. Congratulations, and all the best!
