Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
While I'm off spending my weekend in NYC with friends, check out some weekend reads that I picked out for you all!

Weekend Reads:

  • With the presidential race heating up, Jimmy Kimmel brought in some important correspondents to discuss the candidates, a bunch of kids. Their honesty on the issues are hilarious.
  • Speaking of Jimmy's, I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Fallon's lip sync battle, where he competes with celebrities in the ultimate non-karaoke competition. Last week he competed against Ellen Degeneres with guest judge Justin Timberlake, and magic ensued.
  • I'm on the hunt for the perfect suede bootie for fall and Sole Society has a variety of amazing options I'm considering. My two favorites are these western booties and this army brown option.
  • Since I'm in NYC this weekend, I thought this article was perfect: 11 Tips for Taking the Best Travel Shot on Instagram.
  • Now that the pool is closed, I'm getting back in the kitchen to cook up some new recipes. Rachel Ray gives me 16 Quick and Easy Fall Recipes that I definitely want to try including spicy creamed corn and butternut pudding.
  • I've been on the hunt for cute work pants for fall and Tommy Hilfiger came to my rescue with these plaid ankle pants.
  • I had to take Misa to the vet last week and it's always a production because she is so afraid. As usual, there is a Buzzfeed article to describe my usual experience: Pets Afraid of the Vet

Weekend Reads

Summer days drifting away...
Its crazy to think that we're only two weeks away from Labor Day weekend. The thought of summer coming to a close is not a thought I want to entertain right now and I'm hoping that an Indian summer  is upon us. All of the stores are filled with fall arrivals and I can't bear to think about putting on a sweater right now. So I will remain blissfully ignorant about the passing days and will continue to spend as much time by the pool as possible! Check out these weekend links while you're hanging out this weekend.

Weekend Reads:
  • Disclaimer: I've already watched this 11 minute video three times since discovering it. A mommy bear and her 5 cubs made their way into a family pool and had a pool party of their own, much to the dismay of the little girl watching in horror as all the baby cubs pop all her pool floats, too cute!
  • If you're a foodie like me with a sense of wanderlust you'll enjoy this article about the best cities to visit if you're a food lover.
  • This past week went to the Loft to check out their dress pants for work and was able to pick up two pairs during their pant sale. I loved these navy skinny ankle pant and these grey slouch pants and I plan on picking up a few more pairs before fall arrives.
  • When I went and saw Vacation last Wednesday I was able to check out the trailer for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey's new movie 'Sisters' and it looks Ah-ma-zing!
  • JK Rowling weighed in this week on the theory about the 3 brothers this week.
  • Obsessed with this skull pendant necklace from Banana Republic, simple but with a slight edge.

Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
Today I'll be celebrating Market Days with my cousins and friends in Chicago. Market Days is a giant street festival with vendors, music and plenty of drinks, it's going to be a fun weekend!

Weekend Links:
  • I bought this double stud crossbody bag last week at Nordstrom, it's going to be perfect for wandering around Chicago. It's lightweight and is large enough to hold my glasses and wallet.
  •  Check out this amazing Taylor Swift/Harry Potter mashup
  • I'll be navigating the subway for the first time completely on my own, wish me luck! The Everygirl gives us the top 6 travel apps that makes everything from packing to navigating easier.
  • The J Crew Quilted Puffer Vest is back in stock and it's available at J Crew Factory for much cheaper than the non-factory store.
  • I'm a sucker for cute animal stories and this list of 10 Heartwarming Cat & Dog Heroes is no exception. How cute are those Saint Bernard dogs?!
  • Is anyone else watching the train wreck Bachelor in Paradise? Well if you're interested Reality Steve posted his episode by episode spoilers for the season.
  • Since I'll be attending a street festival all weekend, here are 11 great festival finds under $90.
  • Loved this article on How to Follow Up After a Job Interview, there was plenty that I didn't know about and these tips will help leave your potential co-workers with a lasting impression on you (in a good way!).

Weekend Reads

Happy Weekend Everyone!
I hope you're all staying cool during this heatwave that is moving across the US. Temperatures reached the high 90's in my area this week so Misa and I spent a lot of time in front of the AC. If the rest of you are doing the same, here are a few fun reads and weekend links for your enjoyment.
  • Buzzfeed really had me laughing at some of the articles they posted this week including this list of 23 People Who Saw An Opportunity and Took It
  • Did anyone else get the chance to shop Baublebars Christmas in July Sale? I was able to pick up my favorite bold beaded strand necklace in baby pink.
  • Just because I like my job doesn't mean I wouldn't rather be home doing something fun. This article on 'If The Thoughts You Had At Work Were Motivational Posters' totally nails my thought process throughout the day.
  • How pretty is Laura from Bright and Beautiful in this striped top?! I found two similar tops here and here.
  • You may not think of Amy Schumer as a role model off the bat, but check out this interview in Glamour Magazine and you will see how awesome she really is.
  • I've really been enjoying this season of Big Brother, it's my summer guilty pleasure. Each day after the episode I always listen to the episode recap at Rob Has A Podcast where he brings in old houseguests to talk game.

TGIF
I can't wait for this work week to be over. The first week back in the office after vacation is always the hardest, right?

  • My new favorite sleeveless shirtdress from J Crew Factory is on sale this weekend!

  • I love these rope bracelets from Lilli and Tori, they come in so many bright colors and would be great for layering with other bangles.

Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
My good mood vibes are through the roof right now because for the first time since last September I was able to lie in the pool! I have never been happier because being in the sun in my happy place, it's been a long winter and it felt so good to have the warm weather hit my face. Plus, I think the fact that I will be trading my days at the mall for floating in a pool might make my wallet a little fuller, which isn't a bad thing! For those of you relaxing on the beautiful day, here are a some weekend links for your enjoyment:

Weekend Reads
  • I've said it here before, I am a huge Survivor nerd. I've been a fan of the show since it premiered in season 1 and I've sent two application videos in. Next season they're doing a "second chances" season and allow us viewers to vote for the 20 people they want to return. Fans can check out the candidates and vote: here.
  • J Crew Factory is having a huge sale in stores and online. Currently everything is up to 60% off with an additional 20% off online when you use the code EXTRA20. Currently I'm loving these tortoise sunglasses with a blue tint and they're only $15 with the sale!
  • As if I needed another reason to want to take a trip down to Orlando again, Nintendo just announced they are partnering up with Universal Studios to create a Nintendo World at their theme parks #nerdalert.
  • Ordered this cerulean beaded necklace from Baublebar last week and I've gotten so much use out of it already. I'm already thinking about ordering it in periwinkle and mint too!

  • Check out these Mother's Day Breakfast and Brunch Recipes for some tasty last minute ways to spoil your mom tomorrow.

I laughed out loud at this list of 24 Dreams that All '90s Girls Had That Never Came True, seriously I'm considering making my adult bedroom Lisa Frank themed.
  • If you're a Disney movie fan, then you will definitely enjoy Todrick Hall's latest mash-up. He takes classic songs from movies like the Little Mermaid and the Lion King and sings them to the beats of different pop hits. I need all of his Disney mash-ups on my iPod STAT!

Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
Today I'll be spring cleaning!
First I'm going to put away all of my winter sweaters and attire and replace them with spring and summer clothes and then I'm changing up my bedding to the new Whim by Martha Stewart bedspread I bought last weekend. It will be good to clean out my closet and donate a few items I don't wear anymore. Lately my room has been a disaster so it will feel good to get organized.

Weekend Reads:
  • I'm really really excited for the return of Game of Thrones this weekend and since I won't be getting my hands on the Winds of Winter until 2016, the new season will have to fill my needs for now. If you need reminding of what happened last season, check out this Buzzfeed article.
  • Speaking of Game of Thrones, please watch this amazing parody done by Sesame Street, trust me, you won't regret it.
  • This gorgeous Whitney Eve floral skirt would be perfect for the office.
  • My newest obsession is the Jimmy Fallon Lip Sync Battles where he enlists various celebrities to compete against each other in fake karaoke. The most recent battle was between Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt and these ladies did not disappoint.
  • This vegetable bacon fried rice dinner looks amazing, putting it on my list of recipes to try.
  • This white crepe dress and long boyfriend shirt are on my short list of summer purchases.

This has become a new tradition in our family where even distant relatives join us for a few hours to celebrate and dine on traditional Italian brunch items like spaghetti pie. While I'm off celebrating with family, enjoy these weekend reads for your Saturday viewing pleasure.

Weekend Reads:
  • A Holiday Inn in Panama City Beach that is frequented by spring breakers has taken on a new tradition. Every morning at 11am they play "The Circle of Life" over the pool loudspeakers as a wake-up call for the guests. After seeing this I think I need to set my morning alarm to the song!
  • Need a last minute recipe to bring to your Easter Sunday get-together? Try my Easter Deviled Egg Recipe that's currently posted on The Undeniable Report.

Weekend Reads

Good Morning!
After the snow we got yesterday, it was nice to wake up and see the sun shining. I'm hoping that by mid-afternoon all of yesterdays snow melts into grass. I just have to keep reminding myself that spring will be here soon, especially with April around the corner.

Here is what I'm loving this week:
  • I discovered Lord & Taylor's Design Lab a few months ago and really fell in love with the brands spring collection. Well they recently expanded their line and have so many gorgeous dresses and tops in a variety of prints. Bonus: they're really affordable and always have sales!
  • Last December I got hooked on the podcast Serial, the story of Adnan Syed a highschooler who was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend. Well, I'm a sucker for a good crime story and my friend Meg recently got me hooked on the new HBO docu-series The Jinx: The Life & Death of Robert Durst. This six part examination tells the story of millionaire Robert Durst who was suspected of killing three different people, including his wife, over the course of thirty years.
  • Now that vacation is over, I've already started looking at flights to Chicago this summer for a long weekend. This means I'll be back to budgeting and scanning different websites for different flight deals, which is why I recommend this article on How to Save When Planning Your Next Trip.
  • The only good thing about coming home from vacation is seeing all the spring arrivals out in full force. I'm looking forward to going out to the mall next weekend and investing in a few key pieces for spring including these white skinny jeans from Madewell.
  • With easter right around the corner I've been researching different Easter themed desserts and bread ideas to try. These hot cross buns are the perfect mix and look delicious.
  • While in St. Maarten I lived in these Sephora temporary tattoos. They definitely will be a summer staple in a few months because they're like jewelry, except they can't fall off and you can wear them in the water!
  • Lately I've been on the job hunt, looking to promote myself professionally so I can "move up the corporate ladder." So I loved this article by the Everygirl about 5 Ways to Develop Confidence in the Workplace
**Update: I also wanted to share with you the good news that Georgia has been found!! You can read all about her reunion with my friend Eric here!**

Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
If you're reading this in the morning, I am probably up in the air somewhere between here and St. Maarten, but if you're reading this in the afternoon I should have officially arrived in paradise. The thought of feeling the warm sun on my face has me more excited than Christmas morning. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, here are a few weekend links for your reading enjoyment:

Weekend Reads...
  • My new favorite blogger chef is Chungah from Damn Delicious. She makes a wide variety of simple but creative recipes and she's become my go-to website when I'm looking for some inspiration. If you're looking for new recipes to work into your weekly repertoire than you should definitely give her blog a look. Also make sure you follow her on Pinterest too!
  • Speaking of recipes... how amazing do these mozzarella stuffed turkey meatballs look? I have a meatball recipe that my mom gave me years ago but I definitely want to try these sometime.
  • Looking to plan a last minute Spring Break trip somewhere but you're not sure where to go? Check out this list of 10 Spring Break Destinations for the Post-College Crowd. Cancun and Miami sounded fun when you were in college but now you want something a little more adventurous and a little less crazy. Included in the list is Costa Rica which was my spring break trip last year.
  • Blogger Mackenzie Horan went to St. Maarten a few months ago and her pictures from her trip are absolutely stunning. I wish I had her photography skills!
  • Personally I'm always looking at ways to advance myself career-wise. I check the positions available on the state website weekly and I make sure I sign up for every opportunity to take a state test. I loved this article on Levo League that provided us with 15 Career Tips from our favorite Girl Bosses, I found it inspiring to see so many successful women making changes in their industries.
  • Looking for a pretty floral dress to celebrate the start of spring? This dress from Francesca's is adorable and affordable, it's only $48!

Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
One week from today I will be in the beautiful Saint Maarten soaking up as much sun as humanly possible. Today I'll be spending my day taking my summer clothes out of storage and starting to pack my suitcase (it's not like I'll need my bathing suits or shorts before next week anyways, right?). In addition to warmer weather and friends, I'm most excited about summer prints and colors, this winter has been so drab!

Weekend Reads:
  • In preparation for my trip next week I picked up this pretty Pom Pom Tunic from J Crew Factory. I think it will be the perfect cover-up for when we're lounging by the pool.
  • Take a moment and watch this Love Has No Labels video. It went viral last week and really has a powerful message about how we view others. Yay equality!
  • Jessica from Jessica Marie Designs contacted me last week regarding her Etsy shop. She has a variety of printable blog planners as well as other products for you non-bloggers including daily planner printables, bill checklists, and address books. These products are great for the student or working girl who loves to be organized. She is even offering Monster Misa readers 15% off their order of $12 or more with the code: BLOGPLANNER through March 14th!
  • If you're a Game of Thrones fan and can't get Taylor Swift's 'Blank Space' out of your head then you will love this latest mash-up from Nerdist. Nerdist is a website created by Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick that discusses all things nerdy. They recently released this hilarious song that has Game of Thrones author George RR Martin singing about Westeros to the Taylor Swift hit. I've already listened to it 10 times, so funny!
  • How cute are these 'Building My Empire' mugs from The Trendy Sparrow? I'm not a coffee drinker but I could totally see it as a pencil and pen holder for my work desk.
  • Love seeing what the fashion bloggers wear but can't afford their designer duds? Well The Everygirl just released their list of 15 Budget Friendly Fashion Bloggers. Proof that you don't need to spend a lot of money to be stylish.
  • My Spicy Chipotle Chicken recipe is up on the Undeniable Report, go check it out!
  • I just picked up The Cuckoo's Calling during my last trip to Target. Has anyone read it?
What are you up to this weekend?

Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
I have an early morning ahead of me, making my way to a local high school to take a Tax Department State Test, exciting right? On the plus side, a good score on this test could lead to a better job within the state. So I'm hoping this test won't take me too long and I'll finish up in time to have the afternoon to run my errands.

Weekend Links:
  • This week had a big announcement coming from the producers of American Horror Story. Not only would Lady Gaga be joining the cast for the fourth season but this upcoming season will be titled American Horror Story: Hotel, leading many to begin the speculation as to what exactly this season will entail. Glamour magazine listed 3 theories about the theme of the next season and it already has me excited for October 2015.
  • Speaking of good television, I'm sure I'm not the only one who started binge watching the new season of House of Cards that was released on Netflix yesterday. For those of you who haven't started the new season yet, but need a refresher of what happened during season 2, CNN has provided us with a Season 2 refresher in under 2 minutes.
  • I still have the rest of the Oscars sitting in my DVR but I made sure I didn't miss any moment on the red carpet. Personally, my favorites included Lupita Nyong'o and Margo Robbie but you can check out all the best and worst dressed celebrities here.
  • I wrote an article for the travel section of the Undeniable Report on my trip to Costa Rica last year. It made me nostalgic of last years memories and eager to head out to my next adventure in two short weeks!
  • Speaking of vacation, with my trip right around the corner I'm already thinking about planning my next summer trip. I loved this Everygirl article about 'How to Save When Planning Your Next Trip'. It made me more conscious about looking for deals, especially when it comes to airlines.
  • I've been obsessed with Survivor for as long as I remember and this year in commemoration of the 30th(!!!) season, host Jeff Probst names his top 10 Survivor winners of all time. Also not all my favorites are on this list, I definitely agree with a lot of his decisions.
  • Even the ocean is sick of this cold weather. Check out these amazing photographs of the icy waters in Nantucket Massachusetts. The semi frozen waves look like slushies as they break on the shore.
  • I refuse to participate in the discussion about whether that dress was gold/white or blue/black but I did enjoy Buzzfeed's correspondence regarding the two llamas that escaped and led authorities on a chase through the Arizona streets.

What are you up to this weekend?

Weekend Reads

Happy Saturday!
Today I am heading over to the Macaroni & Cheese Bowl with a group of friends, so I'll be sporting my best elastic waist pants for sampling a variety of cheesy goodness! If you're relaxing on the couch this weekend, be sure to check out some of my favorite weekend links:
  • In honor of my trip to the Mac & Cheese Bowl, be sure to check out my crock pot macaroni and cheese recipes I've posted on Monster Misa.
  • Excited for the Oscars this weekend? Be sure to make your predictions early and fill out this 2015 Oscar Ballot so you can follow along with the show. Personally, I'm rooting for American Sniper to take home the golden statue.
  • I tried on this faux leather trim white mini at the mall yesterday and fell in love. However, it wasn't on sale in store so I wasn't about to make the plunge. Luckily for me it is on sale online so I will be picking this up just in time for my vacation.
  • Last night during 50 Shades I saw the trailer for the new Amy Schumer movie Trainwreck. I don't think I laughed that hard at a movie trailer in long time and now I can't wait to plan a girls night to see the movie when it comes out in a few months.
  • Are you following 'Hot Dudes Reading' on Instagram? I discovered it last week and thought it was a hilarious concept. Basically people are secretly taking pictures of handsome men in public places like the subway reading books and posting them on this site. It's become a guilty pleasure of mine.
  • Us New Yorkers have experienced a hell of a winter these past few months and the people responsible for running the Ithaca website recently suggested that visitors looking to check out their city should visit Key West instead and come back to Ithaca when it's warmer. The website read: "Due to this ridiculously stupid winter, Ithaca invited you to visit The Keys this week. Please come back when things thaw out. Really, it's for the birds here now. PS: Send us a postcard!"
  • Since I'll be celebrating St. Patricks Day in St. Maarten this year I decided to pick up this green dress from Francesca's yesterday so I can show my Irish pride in a warmer climate.
  • Love the recipes posted on the Undeniable Report? Be sure to like us on Facebook for up to date deliciousness, including this amazing eggplant parmesan recipe written by our writer Julia!

Weekend Links

Happy Saturday!
After yesterdays below freezing temperatures I am looking forward to staying in my pajamas, under the covers all day today. If any of you have the same plans as I do, be sure to check out some of these weekend links.

  • Did you get a chance to watch this video of Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon battling it out in a lip sync challenge? They performed after the Superbowl last week, competing against each other while signing some of todays biggest hits including Beyonce's 'Drunk in Love' and Katy Perry's 'Roar.'
  • Yesterday I went to Lord & Taylor and picked up a few items for St. Maarten and I also ended up buying these color block d'orsay flats that I am so excited to wear this spring.
  • Buzzfeed has done it again and this link literally made me LOL, they collected videos of 11 dogs who are VERY SORRY for what they've done, meaning pups who ruined furniture, ate cookies and we're overall very naughty. The looks on some of these pups faces are absolutely priceless and it brings me back to the days when Misa ate my bright pink slippers that I received for Christmas only two days earlier. I promise it will bring a smile on your face.
  • I'm praying this glasses print blouse from Forever 21 goes back in stock. It's definitely my style and the perfect representation of #geekchic! Plus it would go great with this Bexley Glasses Watch from Francesca's.
  • Ladies, we have suffered another fashion blow. Just weeks after C Wonder and Piperlime announced they were closing their stores Kate Spade announced they are closing down all of their 19 Kate Spade Saturday stores. On the plus side, we might get some good going away sales on their way out.
  • Did you check out Wednesday's post discussing my Warby Parker Try-On Kit? I'm still looking for opinions on which pair to buy.
  • I'm looking forward to the Walking Dead coming back tomorrow night. You can watch the trailer for the second half of season five here and be sure to check out the 5 things you need to know before the show starts back up tomorrow night including the return of some familiar faces!
What are you up to this weekend?
xoxo
