Saturday Thoughts

Happy Saturday!
I'm switching things up a bit and posting my Sunday Thought on a Saturday this week because I have a special post for tomorrow. As I mentioned yesterday, it's my birthday weekend so I will be celebrating with various friends and family. I can't help but feel a sense of fulfillment when I am with loved ones so this quote was especially appropriate for this week. I am very lucky to have such a wonderful support system surrounding me and I honestly couldn't imagine anything better to have than that...

Who are the people that mean the most to you?

Friday Favorites

TGIF!
I thought that this week flew by because of the long weekend, which is good because there are so many things I am looking forward to this weekend! Check out some of the things I have been loving this week!

My Birthday Weekend
My 24th birthday is this Sunday but I think it's appropriate to celebrate all weekend long. I have some wonderful plans lined up with friends and family. Plus on my actual birthday I'll be highlighting my 25 before 25 list!

C Wonder Flash Sale
It's alway so much fun to come home from a long day at work to an online flash sale. C Wonder gave early access to its Facebook fans and I took full advantage of the sale scooping up a navy silk blouse, some fun baubles and a pair of black flats for $32! I was in desperate need for a new pair of black flats and these were perfect (say a little prayer for me that they fit because they are final sale!). It was an early birthday gift to myself.

I've had my eye on this beautiful French Connection dress for a couple of months now and it has finally gone on sale (plus an extra 20% for Friends and Family!). One of my favorite bloggers Kelly in the City, was sporting the white version on her blog a couple days ago and it looked great on her but I'm still debating whether I like the white or black better for myself. So I need your advice... do I go with black or white?!
American Horror Story: Coven
I've been a fan of the AHS series since season one but this season has been my favorite. I think the real reason I love it so much is because it's all about women witches kicking ass. It's so nice to see a series where the leads are all women, and oscar winning women at that! Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates are show stoppers. If you like a good scare seasons 1 & 2 are on Netflix too.

Confession: My short iPhone cord drives me absolutely crazy because it is always coming unplugged. I saw these awesome 10ft colored iPhone cords on Amazon for only $2.50 and I need to order it ASAP. The lime green is my favorite.

What are you loving this week?
What are your plans for this weekend?

Sleeping Beauty

Ugh winter has finally arrived, it's going to be in the 30s this week...yuck. I have a pretty big selection of winter pajama's but they're all several years old and they are starting to wear out so this winter I really need to invest in some new sets. During the winter I love flannel pajama sets and this season LL Bean has really cute navy and red sets that can be monogrammed (bonus!). So many of my pajamas are fun patterned (I do have my fair share of Christmas PJs) but sometimes a simple navy pair with white trim feels a little more grown up.
I'm also one of those weirdos that wears their bathrobe around the house all the time. I don't really know why I do it but when I'm cold in the house I always turn to my bathrobe instead of a sweatshirt. The LL Bean bathrobe is the best of both words because it is made out of a fleece sweatshirt material and it has a hood. My robe is a couple years old so this winter I will be upgrading! Still debating what color I want, the LL Bean robe is available in light blue (pictured above), grey and pink.
Finally, to top off the whole sleepwear look I would definitely invest in a pair of LL Bean fur lined slippers, they're so warm and toasty but you could definitely wear them outside if you need to quickly run outside to grab the mail or newspaper.

Where are your favorite PJs from?
Am I weird for walking around in my bathrobe all the time?

Woman Crush Wednesday

Do you ever look through fashion magazines, watch the red carpet or a TV show and wish you could be a certain actress or character? I am definitely guilty of envying more than one famous actress. It's not that I am not happy with myself, its just that I sometimes like to draw inspiration from other powerful women in entertainment. So today I am taking on a common twitter trending topic "Women Crush Wednesday" where I will highlight some of the actresses that I can't get enough of. Not only do I love the amazing fashion sense these ladies possess but also their strength and personality.

Emilia Clarke
I'm not sure how many of you are Game of Thrones fans (if you aren't stop everything you are doing and watch this amazing HBO show... and read the books, obviously), but Emilia Clarke plays the strong female Khalessi Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons. In the show/book she is pretty bad ass and wears some pretty cool outfits and sports a blonde wig but on the red carpet Emilia really shines picking fun patterns and colors. She is perfection!

Kerry Washington
So one day over the summer I was looking for a something to watch on Netflix so I decided to try Scandal.... fast forward 2 days later and I had binge watched 2 seasons of Kerry's hit show. She plays gladiator Olivia Pope and even though Olivia tends to stick to black and white when attending events in Washington DC, Kerry Washington isn't afraid of a little color. Basically she could throw on a paper bag and still look flawless.

Jennifer Lawrence
I don't know about the rest of you but I've been counting down the days until Catching Fire comes out. I've been a fan of Jennifer since she stared in X-Men First Class but I love so many of her movies (I definitely recommend Silver Lining Playbook). She is super talented and has such a real personality, one that hasn't been tarnished by fame. Jennifer is a risk taker on the red carpet and never disappoints, ugh why can't I have a body like hers?!

Who is on your Woman Crush Wednesday list?

New Recipe: Beef Stew in the Crock Pot

Happy Tasty Tuesday!
This is another great crock pot recipe for those cold winter nights. Again, I can't stress enough how awesome the crock pot is, you throw in all the ingredients and let it sit for a couple hours and then you have a delicious meal with plenty of leftovers for later in the week!
Ingredients:
  • 1 package of beef for stewing (thats literally what it's called at the supermarket... it looks like beef tips in packaging... ask your butcher to grab some fresh for you)
  • 1 package of baby carrots
  • 1 can of corn
  • 1 can of green beans
  • 2 cans of potatoes or you can buy a baked potato and cut it into cubes
  • 1 can of beef gravy
  • 1 cup of water
Threw all the ingredients into the crock pot
Directions:
  • Put all the ingredients into the crock pot
  • Cook for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low
  • Enjoy
*Fresh bread is the best addition to the stew, who doesn't like to dip it in the juice?!*

A Metallic Twist: Hologram

I have been loving the futuristic hologram for a couple of months now, especially after I bought a green and blue hologram clutch from H&M for $20. It's a fun twist on the metallic trend and I especially love the idea of a fun hologram accessory with the holidays coming up because we all love to sparkle.  Keep in mind incorporating a holographic piece into your outfit means you should keep the rest of your outfit simple because the shiny material is definitely eye catching enough.

I've found a variety of fun holographic pieces at a variety of price ranges and styles that can be added to your wardrobe:

Would you buy something with a holographic twist?
